Air Fryer Sticky Sesame Chicken Recipe

Chicken

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons (16 g) cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Sticky Sesame Sauce

  • ¼ cup (60 ml) soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) hoisin sauce
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons (10 ml) water

For Serving

  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions
  • Cooked rice and/or vegetables


Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (205°C) and lightly spray the basket with oil.
  • Toss the chicken pieces with cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
  • Arrange the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes, shaking halfway through, until golden and cooked through. The chicken should reach 165°F (74°C) internally.
  • While the chicken cooks, combine the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil in a pan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer.
  • Stir together the cornstarch and water. Add the slurry to the sauce and cook for about 1 minute, stirring, until thickened.
  • Remove the sauce from the heat and toss the cooked chicken in it until evenly coated.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  • Serve immediately over rice with vegetables on the side.
