Air Fryer Homemade Breakfast Bites Recipe

Air Fryer Homemade Breakfast Bites Recipe

These scrumptious breakfast treats are so quick and easy to make in the air fryer. The crispy sugar coating is hard to resist.

PREP: 15 MIN.

COOK: 10 MIN./BATCH

MAKES: 6 SERVINGS (1 ½ DOZEN)

  • 1 ⅓ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup crisp rice cereal, coarsely crushed
  • 2 Tbsp. plus ½ cup sugar, divided
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ¼ cup butter-flavored shortening
  • ½ cup 2% milk
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup butter, melted

1. In a large bowl, combine flour, cereal, 2 Tbsp. sugar, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk just until moistened. Shape into 1-in. balls.

2. Preheat the air fryer to 400°. In a shallow bowl, combine the remaining ½ cup sugar and cinnamon. Dip balls in butter, then roll in cinnamon-sugar.

3. In batches, arrange in a single layer on greased tray in air-fryer basket. Cook until browned and a toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean, 8-12 minutes.

3 balls: 355 cal., 17g fat (7g sat. fat), 22mg chol., 533mg sod., 48g carb. (23g sugars, 1g fiber), 4g pro.

KITCHEN TIP: These breakfast bites are similar to traditional doughnut holes. You can exchange the cinnamon-sugar coating for powdered sugar if you like. Omit rolling the balls in the cinnamon and sugar prior to air frying. After they are done baking in the air fryer, and while they are still warm, roll the balls in powdered sugar before they cool off completely (the sugar sticks better this way).
